Looking for help choosing the type of dress that suits your shape? The Bridal Studio recognises that the shape of the dress is very important to ensure that the bride is looking perfect on her big day.

The experienced staff at The Bridal Studio have compiled this style guide to help you choose a dress that suits your particular shape.

I've quite broad shoulders

Dresses with narrow bodices work very well for this shape, as the narrow bodice offsets your shoulder shape and helps create a beautiful hourglass shape.

In most cases, it is advisable not to attempt to conceal the shoulders as this can have the effect of highlighting them.

I'm very slim...

For slim brides, we usually recommend a ball gown type wedding dress. This will help to accentuate your feminine shape and give your silhouette a good balance. Wedding dresses with low-backs can also look great on brides with a slim figure.

We have found that it is usually better to avoid dresses that sit off-the-shoulder with sleeves that cover part of the arm. Also, dresses with halter straps or high necks are not advisable.

I've a pear-shaped figure...

For brides with a pear-shaped figure, strapless ball gowns can look stunning. Off-the-shoulder necklines gives great balance to your shape, making your top half look more in proportion to your bottom half.

It is advisable to avoid wedding dresses with a V-neckline for this type of shape. V-necklines draw the eyes downward, therefore, off-the-shoulder dresses are more recommended.

I'm quite small and petite...

Petite brides can look amazing in A-line dresses. These dresses create a long uninterrupted line. As for necklines, we usually recommend off-the-shoulder styles, strapless dresses cut straight across or with slight dips in the centre or with peaks at the side.

We usually recommend that petite brides avoid large voluminous ball gown type dresses as these dresses can swamp the bride.

I've a rectangular shape...

Brides with a rectangular shape look great in ball gown type dresses with a basque waist or empire-waist. This shape helps to give you a more hour-glass shape.

We usually recommend that brides with this shape avoid loose fitted dresses or dresses with dropped waists.

I've a busy figure...

Brides with a large bust can create a stunning look by choosing a dress with an uplifting foundation garment and an off-the-shoulder bodice. This helps to curtail your curves with a one-piece minimiser under a gown with a fitted bodice to emphasise your waist. Full skirts help to add balance to your overall look.

Brides with this shape are advised to avoid overdoing the bareness, as this will take from your face.

I've a curvy hour-glass shape

Curvy, hour-glass shaped brides are recommended to look at ball gown type dresses with a basque waist or high-waist A-line dresses with low necklines.

Brides with this shape are advised to avoid loosely fitting dresses that can cling to your body - and add extra pounds.
